Serve The City Geneva

Happy Thanksgiving 2020

Thank you to everyone who baked a pie for the needy.
We received over 40 pies that were served to less-fortunate families and 200 homeless people. It was very heartwarming.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Serve the City Geneva needs you

Dear Volunteers,  WE NEED YOU !

In this COVID time, we know how difficult it is to stay safe and keep in touch with the current safety directions.

But also there are many in the community that are suffering from the economic effects of the “pandemic”

This Friday afternoon and Saturday in many stores across Geneva will be having a food drive to collect food for those in need.  Serve the City has selected 5 stores to support this collection program and could really use your help.

This year we want everyone to pay special attention to physical distancing. So we can put our bags out to be picked up by shoppers.. and shoppers can just put their donations in the receiving bins (we will sort out things later)

.. so basically the job is “Please” and “Thank-you” and take breaks as necessary.

Do sign up for one of our stores this weekend on www.ServeTheCityGeneva.ch  and stay safe.

Many Many Thanks.. from STC and the Community.

and PS.. thanks to all those who are making pies for the homeless.. !

SAMEDI DU PARTAGE

We are back to Samedi du Partage (on Fridays too), 27 & 28 November. A bi-annual food collection program at local supermarkets. STC is going to try to staff 5 stores with this wonderful program of collection of food for the needy of Geneva. During this Covid time. we will be asked to wear masks, gloves, wash up and stay safe during our shift. We will need to be reminded of physical distancing and remain risk free. It will be helpful to sign up early to ensure we have enough help to oversee this bi-annual project. See the website for a list of stores.

PARTAGE FOOD PACKAGES

The city of Geneva has allocated funds to help support those who have been hit the worst from the Covid pandemic.

Serve the City has offered to help in this fantastic project to help those suffering by providing a food package to over 5,000 families each week thru Christmas. We have committed to offer STC help each Thursday and Friday mornings 9 to 12.

We hope you are able to slot out a few hours to help us on this project.. Do signup now..

MEALS FOR THE HOMELESS

We are now looking for more volunteers to help prepare meals for the homeless. Our aim is to create 300 nutritious takeaway meals per day, which will be dispatched to different homeless shelters across the city. Overseeing the food preparation will be Walter El Nager, a renown international chef who will work alongside our volunteers in leading this project.. This project will last 3 months starting Tuesday 20th October.

We have very recently secured a large kitchen at the Ferme du Bude in Petit-Saconnex. The Ferme du Bude is a well known organic farm which will also be supplying us with key ingredients for our meals. The kitchen is Covid compliant, very large and well ventilated.

We have 2 needs on this project:

1) KItchen Assistants for Meal Prep:

Four people to help each day in the kitchen working alongside the chef, The main roles will be meal prep, cutting and washing of produce. Also preparing the take-aways and cleanup. The hours of work will be 0900-1400 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

2) Drivers

We are looking for drivers who can use their own vehicles to transport meals from our kitchen in Grand Saconnex to the different homeless shelters in Geneva. The hours of work are from 0900-1030 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Starting Tuesday October 20.

With the weather turning colder and the devastating impact of Covid 19 the number of homeless people is increasing dramatically in the city. We hope that you may be able to help with any role and for any duration.

If this is of interest please kindly sign up on our website.
