More STC News (30.8.2020)

Dear Serve The City signups, We are urgently looking for volunteers to help prepare meals for the homeless in Geneva. In recent months we have seen a sharp increase in people taking to the streets as a result of Covid 19. We are therefore looking for volunteers to help on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays in September to assist in preparing meals for the homeless. We have a very skilled chef who will guide you in the role. Experience is not required and you will mainly be chopping and prepping some wonderful take-away meals. The kitchen is located in Geneva Old town at Hotel Bel Esperance and the hours of work are roughly 0930 to 1400. We also are looking for drivers on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in September, who can use their own cars to deliver food to four different locations in central Geneva. We would need you to be at the kitchen at 0930 to load the food into your car. It should take no more than 1 hour to drop off the meals. If you think you could help with either role please do signup on the website. We are still looking for a shopping helper at the La Maison de Tara in Chêne-Bougeries. This convalescent home who would greatly appreciate help with weekly shopping. The project involves just assisting in transporting the purchased goods from store to kitchen. Once again do signup on our STC website. Kind Regards, The Serve The City Team ..ps Thursday & Friday mornings with Partage we are still filling Food distribution bags.

Fall STC Newsletter

Dear fellow STC volunteers,

What a great few months we have had with major projects at the BioPark, A fantastic number of different sandwich makers…(remember 70 per day) wait for it…… 43 different contributors !!
And 322 different signups to help create food bags for the financially challenged of Geneva.!!!

Not to mention the volunteers who have worked over 6 months at Mt.Brilliant soup kitchen creating take-away meal packs for about 200 people a day..
But now we have some different opportunities to continue to help the community.
The Food Bag project will continue at least thru 11 Sept. (signups available online) perhaps longer.
This now continues Thursday and Friday mornings 9-12.

Walter, our resident international chef has now arranged with STC and a team of local chefs to prepare 200 to 300 meals a day for Mt.Brilliant, Salvation Army and the Bateau distributions.
We Urgently need your help..

Our Requirements:

1) We are looking for 2 kitchen helpers a day to work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. The hours of work are roughly 0900-1400. The location of the Kitchen is found in Hotel Bel Esperance.
Now normally we would like to book you for 5 weeks, starting this coming Tuesday. But since it’;s such a short notice. we will be very happy to have you work just one or two days next week.. Longer commitments can come later. Thanks for your quick reply..

2) We are looking for drivers to pick up and deliver the meals to 4 locations at 9:30 am from Hotel Bel Esperance.
We are looking for someone committing to 5 weeks on either Wednesday,Thursday or Friday ( but once again as this is a late request if you can do it next week only we are happy to have your help).

3) We also have a convalescent home who would greatly appreciate help with weekly shopping.
A car is not required, it involves just assisting in transporting the purchased goods from store to kitchen. You can negotiate your availability with the Project Leader & home.

Do think about our above options, and hopefully you will find something of interest to you.
The STC team..

August Newsletter

Dear volunteers

First a big thank you to all those who have stepped out this past month to serve others.
First we had 15 volunteers making 70 sandwiches at home for the closed soup kitchens!
We had just over 200 volunteers packing food packages for those financially hurt in Geneva.
We had over 40 volunteers helping out the BioPark Zoo in Bellevue the past 3 weeks
and other events where people were stepping out to help others who they may not even know; not just thru Partage, but Carrefour Rue, Salvation Army, the Bateau and others. Last but not least thanks to the volunteers who are selflessly leaving the comfort and safety of their home to go to the Soup Kitchen JdM each day, Mondays through to Thursdays, to help put together the food packages to be delivered to the 200+ needy of Geneva.

Now, the August known events..

The sandwich program will still move on in August since the Soup kitchens is still not able to open and take-away meals are a blessing to around 200 people a day. The shelter has its staff back cooking takeaway meals 3 days a week and STC is providing sandwiches for two days a week.

Partage Food packets are still in full distribution for the month running at 5,ooo meal packages a week. Serve the city is providing help Thursday & Friday mornings working from PalExpo.

As other needs and project appear we will be posting them. Project leaders and Account managers are always appreciated.. We have been improving our Social Media exposure and appreciate contributions.. Thanks for all your support and helping others at this special time, with or without STC presence.
